It’s not everyday you can get a group of friends together, plan an elaborate walking path in which you can hit multiple breweries and still stay within their open and close times! A great deal of time and effort payed off.

Here is a PDF outlining some of the planned areas and times — URBAN BEER HIKE in COLOR

Here is the night’s agenda:

  1. Parallel 49 Brewery
  2. Doan’s Brewery
  3. Powell Street Brewery
  4. Callister Brewery
  5. Off the Rail Brewery
  6. Bomber Brewing
  7. Strange Fellows Brewery

  • We left for the tour a little later than we had hoped. This caused us to miss the time windows for Coal Harbour Brewery (which is closed weekends), and Storm Brewing (which closed at 6PM). Jenina and I have been to Storm many times, but our friends Danny and Kirsten have yet to try their awesome brews. Oh, and worth mentioning that Storm does not have a taste room license so their samples are by donation with no chairs or tables. Check their Instagram account for their latest brain storm!

Taking a Car2Go to our first destination seemed appropriate. After all, we wouldn’t need a vehicle by the time we made it thru our list! Arriving at Parallel 49, their was plenty of parking. We could see the line-up forming out the door. Thankfully, our trusty comrades beat us to the brewery and were holding us two seats! Felt like royalty walking past the line of people whose mouths were watering watching others down their crisp beers.

A very short walk from Parallel 49 brought us to Doan’s Brewery. A very small hole in the wall style tasting room. Surprisingly there was no line and only a couple other patrons. They had a nice array of local snacks, and a great  selection of beer. Two things notable about their menu was that out of all the places we visited through-out the night, this was the only location serving Kölsche; along with Kölsche shandy’s using Dickies Gingerbeer. The shandy alone was worth visiting for.

A 12 minute walk which felt shorter brought us to Powell Street Brewery. If you’re a fan of IPA’s than this would be the brewery for you.

***** More pictures and the rest of the article to come. Our apologies, as we need to transfer our drunkin’ notes!
